Un-Surge
Tonight, President Bush is set to address the nation about the progress of the war in Iraq and what the plans for the troop levels will be in the next months. According to reports, President Bush plans to relate the success that our troops are experiencing in Iraq and report that there will be a troop gradual troop withdrawal that will put the number of troops in Iraq back to the pre-surge level by July of 2008. So, President Bush is advocating a withdrawal that will take us right back to where we were at the beginning of the year. Anyone who would was against the troop surge in the beginning was labeled as unpatriotic and not willing to support the troops. Now, President Bush wants to go back to where things were before the surge. Isn't it a bit bizarre that if you were against the first surge, you were against the troops, but if you're for pre-surge troop numbers now, you're for what's best for the troops? Hmmmm....

I think that Bush hopes no one will notice that he is simply backtracking, and instead be happy that the troop levels are being reduced.
I think Bush is feeling pressure from Republicans because so many people are against the war, and it will be very hard to get a Republican in office since so many people are against still being in Iraq.
It's scary how much people trust the military- how they think Petraeus is an objective, independent observer. He's definitely in communication with the Whitehouse as the daily show clips proved today in class. The American people have to ask questions- to everyone! That's why politics and humor go together so well- that keeps everything on the table-nothing's too serious to talk about or criticize.
